Erik and Jaime Perkins, The Perkins Brothers, grew up on a job site helping their father, Randy Perkins, who was an architect and a builder in the mountains of Western North Carolina. It was there that they learned the craft of building custom homes, which included many different aspects of the home. They were involved in the design process, foundations, framing, siding & millwork, roofing, flooring, cabinetry, and fine finish work.
The brothers also spent extensive time in their stepfather’s, Bob Gernandt, woodworking shop, where he built high-end guitars, mandolins, and other stringed instruments. Bob was dedicated to teaching the brothers how to use all kinds of woodworking tools and use their hands to craft amazing musical instruments. He even helped them with their first building project, a treehouse just outside the workshop off the side of the hill!
Jaime, the younger brother, secured his contractor’s license at eighteen years old and set up a fine woodworking shop in his basement where he would later build many of the custom built-ins for building projects. While Jaime was working with the brother’s dad onsite building homes, and honing his craft, older brother Erik went to a four-year university in North Carolina and secured a bachelor’s degree in computer science and multimedia. Shortly after graduating, Erik decided to return home and join Jaime and Randy to form Perkins Enterprises with the plan to design and build custom homes in Western North Carolina, not knowing it at the time and just studying what he enjoyed this degree would later come in very handy as they started producing videos about the construction projects. To this day, Erik edits and produces 100% of the PBB content.
Their father, Randy, retired from building around 2006 at which point the brothers took over the family business called Perkins Enterprises in Bryson City, North Carolina. With over 40 years of combined designing and building custom homes in Western North Carolina, the brothers have built 2 to 3 custom homes per year and have been blessed to have an amazing crew, including Ray Jones, Jason Ellis, and Jonathon Clawson.
